This is an introduction to ideas I am working on for a new book. There is a new life stage–I call it “starting older” –that didn’t exist for previous generations. I was really pleased to present on this topic for the Northwestern Alumni Association Career webinar series. In my view, the traditional vision of retirement is obsolete–not a useful concept for most people who are in the 60-65-year-old age group and planning what to do with the rest of their lives. In the webinar, I talk about the psychological challenges and opportunities that need to be understood in order to enjoy this time of life fully. You can access it here.
I really enjoy working with clients who are entering this life stage. Someone who’s built a business or had a successful career but for internal or external reasons needs to move on. They are facing the question, “What do I do now?” Working together we come up with a plan to manage this challenging transition, remain productive and engaged and enjoy the incredible freedom that this time of life can provide.
